Bhutan Travel Review – Nicole Esq & Monica (October 2025)

In October 2025, Nicole Esq and Monica fulfilled their dream of visiting Bhutan with Breathe Bhutan, combining their shared passions for textiles and photography with the country’s deep spirituality and breathtaking landscapes. Their experience—guided by Pema Dorji, driven by Sonam, and thoughtfully planned by Kinley—was one of authenticity, creativity, and genuine Bhutanese warmth.

From the start, Kinley’s responsiveness and personalized attention stood out. He crafted an itinerary that reflected their interests in the textile arts, festivals, and photography, even personally welcoming them to Bhutan with a home-cooked lunch and dinner—a gesture that set the tone for the entire trip.

Their journey included attending the vibrant Haa Festival, visiting weaving villages, and photographing Bhutan’s rich colors and serene faces. A stay with the gracious Ama Om at a traditional homestay gave them an intimate look at rural life, from rice harvesting and momo-making to sharing laughter over a hot-stone bath. Each day offered meaningful connection and creativity in equal measure.

Pema Dorji’s deep knowledge of Bhutanese history, culture, and Buddhist philosophy, combined with Sonam’s calm presence and good humor, made every moment feel like traveling with friends. When weather briefly closed the Tiger’s Nest trail, the team quickly rearranged the itinerary, allowing Nicole and Monica to complete the hike under perfect skies—one of the trip’s most unforgettable highlights.

Their stay at GIKU NA with hosts Carolyn and Kunzang was the perfect ending—a serene, welcoming space filled with kindness, conversation, and reflection.

For Nicole and Monica, Bhutan was a journey of artistry, authenticity, and human connection. They describe it as “a 6/5-star experience that far exceeded expectations” and credit Breathe Bhutan for turning their creative dream into a lifelong memory.

Original Review (Shared Exactly as Written)

It’s rare that I come across an experience that so far exceeds expectations, but our journey with Breathe Bhutan truly earned a 6/5-star rating. From the very start, it was evident that this team is dedicated to delivering an extraordinary experience, and I can wholeheartedly say that it surpassed every expectation we had.

A special mention goes to our exceptional guide, Pema, and our skilled driver and wise teacher, Sonam. These two individuals are the very embodiment of everything Breathe Bhutan stands for: authenticity and warm hospitality. Their humility, genuine warmth and wealth of knowledge made the trip unforgettable.

We felt more like family by the end of our journey, and the laughter and conversations we shared with them created memories that will last a lifetime. They not only guided us through the iconic landmarks of Bhutan but also took us to hidden gems that were quiet, serene places with no crowds and had the most authentic Bhutanese food.

The reason we chose Breathe Bhutan was the responsiveness and attention to detail we received when planning our trip. Mr. Kinley took the time to understand our preferences, customising the entire itinerary to match our interests perfectly. He also went above and beyond by personally welcoming us in Bhutan and providing a delicious lunch and dinner – showing us immediately the kind of genuine hospitality that would define our entire stay.

The entire itinerary was thoughtfully curated. From immersing ourselves in the rich culture of Bhutan, learning about Buddhist philosophy, to exploring the tranquil beauty of both the cities and rural areas – every day was filled with love and awe. One of the highlights was staying with the kind and gracious Ama Om at a traditional homestay. The experience of participating in rural activities like rice harvesting, making momos, milking cows, and even enjoying a hot stone bath was insightful and truly special.

The authenticity of these experiences, paired with the ability to connect with the locals, enriched our understanding of Bhutan’s way of life in a way that words can’t fully capture. We also had the privilege of attending the Haa Festival, playing archery, weaving, and hiking up to the breathtaking Tiger’s Nest viewpoint. Each of these experiences deepened our connection to Bhutanese culture, and the beauty of the land and people left an indelible mark on our hearts. The GIKU NA stay was also a standout – Carolyn and Kunzang, the hosts, were incredibly warm and hospitable, making us feel like family. Their generosity and the serenity of their place were the perfect end to a magical trip.

A special thank you also goes to Mr. Kinley and our guides Pema and Sonam for their flexibility and professionalism when the weather temporarily closed the Tiger’s Nest trail. They quickly adapted, rearranging our itinerary to ensure we could complete the hike on a sunny, clear day. It’s this kind of personalised service that truly sets Breathe Bhutan apart.

If you’re reading this, consider it your sign to book your trip with Breathe Bhutan. Whether you’re looking for a spiritual retreat, an adventure in nature, or a rejuvenating experience that immerses you in Bhutanese culture, this is the company to trust. We can’t recommend them highly enough.

A heartfelt thank you to Kinley, Pema, Sonam, and the entire team. We’ll be back!
