Bhutan Travel Review — Shaila & Family, South Africa (September 2025)
Shaila and her family’s journey through Bhutan with Breathe Bhutan was a beautifully curated and unforgettable experience. Every day offered something new — a deeper cultural immersion, breathtaking landscapes, and meaningful interactions that reflected the true spirit of Bhutan.
The trip was led with extraordinary attention to detail by Kinley, whose leadership and philosophy of perfection were evident at every step. From the moment the family contacted Breathe Bhutan to the final farewell, everything was seamless, thoughtful, and deeply personalized.
Their guides, Kiran and Thaye, along with drivers Passang and Thine, played a central role in making the experience exceptional. Warm, knowledgeable, patient, and caring, they became like family — especially supportive while traveling with a 2.5-year-old child. The team ensured comfort during drives, meals, and all activities, even escorting Shaila safely down from Tiger’s Nest to fulfill her dream hike.
The family stayed at premium properties personally chosen by Kinley, each offering its own atmosphere of warmth, authenticity, and luxury.
Bhutan left a profound emotional impact on Shaila — the pristine landscapes, the simplicity and kindness of the people, the calming monasteries, and the feeling of untouched authenticity. Having traveled across the Himalayan region, she felt Bhutan stood apart as the last, most pristine kingdom — a destination that touches the soul.
For Shaila and her family, this was not just a holiday but a transformative journey, fulfilling a lifelong dream beyond every expectation.
Breathe Bhutan is not just a travel agency — it’s an experience curator. They focus on immersive, authentic journeys that allow you to feel the true rhythm of Bhutan. No day is ever the same; activities are thoughtfully planned so you get a full 360° experience of the country — its people, landscapes, spirituality, and culture.
This incredible agency is led by Kinley, whose leadership and attention to detail are extraordinary. You can tell Breathe Bhutan isn’t a loose network of freelancers — it’s a well-bonded team, carefully mentored by Kinley himself. His philosophy is simple yet profound: deliver nothing but perfection. Every interaction, transfer, and detail is seamless. Their suppliers and partners clearly respect them, and no request is ever too much.
From requesting a quote to finalizing the itinerary, choosing hotels, confirming flights, being met at the airport, guided throughout the journey, and finally dropped off — you realize you are in the strongest, most responsible hands in Bhutan.
The maturity of their business shows in everything — the exceptional quality of guides and vehicles, coordination of logistics, and thoughtful communication. We stayed at properties personally selected by Kinley, all outstanding — The Pema Thimphu, &Beyond Punakha River Lodge, Willing Resort Trongsa, Gangtey Lodge, and Como Uma Paro. Each offered a different mood, but all shared quality, warmth, and authenticity.
THE GUIDES – The Heart of the Experience
We were a group of seven, with guides Kiran and Thaye and drivers Passang and Thine, and they were nothing short of exceptional.
Our guides felt like family — knowledgeable, passionate, caring, and deeply committed. They worked long days without complaint, always attentive.
We traveled with a 2.5-year-old child, and they went above and beyond — from carrying little bags to ensuring comfort during drives and meals.
My dream was to climb Tiger’s Nest Monastery, and they supported me every step. Passang personally escorted me down to ensure safety. Their focus on comfort and care was unwavering. They made us feel like honoured friends, showing Bhutanese care, humility, and gratitude in every interaction.
BHUTAN – A Land That Touches the Soul
Bhutan has touched me in a way I find hard to put into words. It feels raw and authentic — preserved in its truest form. The air is crisp, the valleys quiet and still, and simply being present feels like a gift.
As you travel, you literally follow the water — rivers and streams carving valleys, high mountains, and breathtaking foothills. The landscapes are beyond stunning.
The people are extraordinary — kind, honest, and warm. Their welcome is heartfelt, and their way of life reflects simplicity and contentment. Even the food is humble yet delicious, with chilies adding spice. Monasteries and chanting monks echoing through valleys are calming, grounding, and profoundly beautiful.
Having visited all countries around the Himalayas, Bhutan is truly the last and most pristine Himalayan kingdom. Unique, isolated, and rich beyond measure, it’s not just a destination — it’s an experience that touches the soul.
A bucket-list item — fulfilled beyond every expectation.
