Bhutan Travel Review – Allan MacFadyen & Partner (May 2025)
In May 2025, Allan MacFadyen and his partner from Scotland made their long-held dream of visiting Bhutan a reality, thanks to Breathe Bhutan. Their week-long adventure—from a breathtaking Paro arrival to Himalayan treks and cultural immersion—was enriched by dedicated guides and impeccable planning. Here’s their authentic and heartfelt 5-star review, shared exactly as written:
For more years than I can remember I have wanted to visit Bhutan and in May of this year that dream became a reality, thanks to Breathe Bhutan.
From the moment I first got in touch by email, everyone at Breathe Bhutan was so helpful – from making changes to the suggested itinerary and accommodation, to guiding me through the booking process, everything was made so easy.
The flight from Kathmandu was magical, with clear views of Mount Everest and a thrilling descent into Paro
My wife and I were welcomed so warmly by our guide, Pema and our driver, Kinzang. They were very friendly, as well as knowledgable about the history and culture of Bhutan, and they went out of their way to ensure that we had a good time.
We stayed in a variety of accommodations – a luxury farm resort, a Homestay in Punakha, a lodge in Gaselo, as well as excellent hotels in Thimphu and Paro.
Our itinerary included a number of day hikes and we also opted to take part in the Bumdra Trek, a two day hike, staying overnight at the Bumdra campsite before descending to the famous Tiger’s Nest monastery the following day. This trek was one of the highlights of our trip and the Himalayan views from Bumdra were exceptional.
We also had the chance to take part in archery, the national sport of Bhutan. Great fun, but more difficult than it looks!
Our itinerary and overnight accommodation were set before we travelled, but throughout the trip Pema made adjustments as necessary and he was always keen to tailor each day to the activities we wanted to do. He also threw in a few thoughtful surprises along the way.
The best part of our trip has got to be the people we met – the Bhutanese are very friendly and welcoming. With the exception of Tiger’s Nest (the most popular visitor attraction in Bhutan) we saw very few other visitors, but those that we did meet all had interesting stories – no one ends up in Bhutan by chance! Of everyone we met, none had such an impact on our trip as Pema and Kinzang. From the moment we met them at Paro Airport until they dropped us off a week later, they both went above and beyond to make our time in Bhutan memorable.
We have no hesitation in recommending Breathe Bhutan. We couldn’t have chosen a better company for our visit and the memories we made during our week in Bhutan will stay with us for a lifetime.
