(Weaving is an integral component of the culture and tradition of Bhutan. With the aim to preserve and promote this living art, the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan was instituted in May 2005 under the patronage of Her Majesty Gyalyum (Queen Mother) Sangay Choden Wangchuck as a non-government, non-profit organization. It showcases some of the best royal dresses and crowns with a brief introduction about Bhutan’s Kings. Some of the museum’s gems are the pearl robe from Tsamdrak Goenpa, crowns of Bhutan’s Kings, Namzas (dresses) and other accessories worn by the Royal Family, personal bedding of His Holiness Zhabdrung Jigme Dorji and the first version of the Raven Crown. There’s also a weaving room, where you can witness firsthand the artisans at work. Bhutanese textiles are one of the finest examples of human skills, produced even today without the use of modern technology. They are an integral part of its cultural and heritage and are unique for their diversity and sophistication.)
