At Breathe Bhutan, we invite our guests to experience Bhutan’s national sport, archery, in a fun and authentic way.We have special short-distance archery ranges designed for guests, making the experience safe, enjoyable, and easy to participate in.Our guide and chauffeur will introduce the basics of Bhutanese archery, help guests try their hand at shooting, and teach them the traditional celebration dance—just like in a real Bhutanese match.

Archery is Bhutan’s national game. Though people in the villages still use bows fashioned from bamboos, in urban towns the use of compound bows is rampant. For some reason though, the archery bow of choice in the kingdom is the hi-tech and deadly hunting bow rather than the updated version of the old bamboo longbow, which, with many bolt-on aids, is the Olympic standard. The hi-tech hunting bows, designed for taking down big game in the wild like bear and moose, are used in Bhutan for fun and competition – yet another illustration of the Bhutanese talent for taking concepts from the west and giving them their own unique twist.
